MORENO VALLEY, Calif. - A portion of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) managed by the Bureau of Land Management has been temporarily closed due to the Valley Fire currently burning in the Lawson Valley and Japatul areas located in San Diego County.
The closure impacts approximately 10.5 miles of trail between Highway 94 near the community of Campo, Calif., and the Cleveland National Forest boundary on Hauser Mountain in San Diego County. For the safety of the public and the firefighters battling the flames, unless authorized, travel is prohibited along this portion of the trail until further notice. Signage has been posted at the main entrance points. This temporary closure is effective immediately until rescinded or modified.
The Valley Fire started on Saturday, Sept. 5, in the Carveacre area in Lawson Valley, and continues to burn toward the PCT. The fire has burned over 17,345 acres and is currently 3 percent contained.
