The Bureau of Land Management Battle Mountain District is conducting prescribed burning activities starting March 8 through 12 at the Big Well Unit of the Railroad Valley Wildlife Management Area.
The prescribed fire area is 20 miles southwest of Currant, Nev., and smoke may be visible in Currant, along Highway 6. The objective is to burn the existing heavy riparian vegetation to maintain the wildlife habitat of the ponds.
Burning activities are highly dependent on favorable weather conditions and, thus, the burn may be postponed if weather is not acceptable. The burn could also be intermittent and will not occur every day throughout the burn window. Signs will be posted along the highway on the days that burning will take place.
