BLM Temporarily Closes Sourdough Campground Amid Bridge Safety Concerns

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on April 30, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

GLENNALLEN, Alaska - The Bureau of Land Management’s Glennallen Field Office is temporarily closing the Sourdough Creek Campground because supports of the bridge at the entrance to the campground are being threatened by rising creek waters.

The campground is located at Mile Post 147.5 of the Richardson Highway and the Sourdough Creek runs along the site. The campground will be closed until the stream subsides and the bridge’s structural integrity can be evaluated.

“It's a weekend, the snow has melted and we've already been receiving calls to ask if our campgrounds are open this season," said Marnie Graham, Glennallen Field Office Manager. “We want to make absolutely sure the campground is safe for visitors."
