ARCATA, Calif. - The Bureau of Land Management will be conducting road improvements along approximately 12 miles of Red Mountain Road on public land in northern Mendocino County, near the community of Piercy. Road work will begin Monday, Aug. 9 and will last until October, causing potential for driving delays or intermittent road closures.
“This project will improve driving conditions and reduce sediment that can find its way into nearby rivers and streams," said Molly Brown, manager of the BLM Arcata Field Office.
Some road closures could occur during overnight hours as crews replace large culverts between mileposts 7 and 11. Red Mountain Road users can expect to encounter crews and heavy equipment during the project.
The road provides access to the BLM’s Red Mountain management unit, about 75 miles south of Eureka, and 3 miles northeast of Leggett. Most of the Red Mountain area is within the 12,800-acre South Fork Eel River Wilderness, part of the National Wilderness Preservation System.
