(BUTTE, Mont.) - Galena Gulch Campground, near Basin, Mont., has re-opened after being closed Sept. 22 due to the nearby Haystack Fire.

The new fire prevention order, which rescinds the previous closure order, was signed by Butte Bureau of Land Management Field Manager Lindsey Babcock and went into effect Oct. 6.

The Haystack Fire, first reported on July 31 near Haystack Mountain to the east of I-15 between Butte and Basin, is currently at 21,591 acres with 80 percent of the perimeter contained.

Burnout operations are ongoing on the northeast side of the fire to reduce the risk to private property and structures south of Boulder.
