CASPER, Wyo. - In an effort to restrict large gatherings, the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center will offer take-home craft kits this year instead of hosting an in-person Holiday on the Homestead event.
The facility remains open to the public and is decorated for the holidays. The Trails Center staff invite you to visit this holiday season and pick up everything you need to have a “Holiday on the Homestead" at your own home.
Beginning December 1 and while supplies last, we’ll hand out free kits to make your own papercrafts and pioneer games at home. Each kit contains enough supplies for a family of four, and includes materials to make Victorian cards, paper lanterns, and paper chains, as well as pioneer-era games like checkers and cat’s cradle. Craft kits are limited to one bag per family.
Holiday on the Homestead, held in partnership between the Bureau of Land Management and the National Historic Trails Foundation, has been a holiday season staple for the Casper community for more than 15 years. The last formal event was held in 2019 and attracted nearly 1,000 visitors over the course of the day. The Trails Center hopes to continue this tradition in 2022.
In addition to its holiday decorations and take-home activities, the Trails Center is hosting its annual model train exhibit presented by the Central Wyoming Model Railroad Association.
