Bureau of Land Management California Desert District to host virtual advisory council meeting in May

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - The Bureau of Land Management will host a public virtual meeting of the California Desert District Advisory Council on Saturday, May 14, from 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the public with a public comment period scheduled for 2:45 p.m.

The Desert Advisory Council meeting will include presentations on conservation efforts for the Amargosa vole, the geothermal leasing process, the Desert Renewable Energy Conservation Plan, battery energy storage systems, and discussion on Desert Advisory Council subgroups. The five field offices and fire program will also report on activities.

Meeting participants must register in advance via Zoom to attend by visiting https://bit.ly/363fQWF. After registering, participants will receive an email with the meeting link and dial-in numbers. The public will have the opportunity to address the Desert Advisory Council during the public comment period, however time for individual comments may be limited due to the number of people wishing to speak. Written comments may also be emailed in advance of the meeting to kmiyamoto@blm.gov. Comments received will be recorded in the meeting minutes.

Advisory councils, such as the Desert Advisory Council, provide advice and recommendations for Bureau of Land Management managers’ consideration on resource and land-management issues within the agency. These citizen-based councils consist of 10 to 15 members from diverse interests in local communities who assist in the development of committee recommendations that address public land management issues.
