Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield noted Russia’s efforts to use technology in its filtration campaign of Ukrainian citizens, as well as the People’s Republic of China’s use of technology against Uyghurs and members of other ethnic and religious minorities in Xinjiang. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield also highlighted the positive and important role that tech companies, rapid innovation, and enhanced public-private partnerships can play in addressing global security issues, including through the United Nations. Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield thanked participants for efforts to support the people of Ukraine in the face of Russia’s brutal war and stressed the urgency of further work to mitigate mis- and disinformation.
