Bills addressed by Natural Resources Committee on Sept. 19

The Natural Resources Committee handled H.Res.1364 bill on Sept. 19, according to the US Congress.

Bill H.Res.1364 titled “Recognizing access to water, sanitation, electricity, heating, cooling, broadband communications, and public transportation as basic human rights and public services that must be accessible, safe, acceptable, sufficient, affordable, climate resilient, and reliable for every person”. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Cori Bush with Jamaal Bowman, Andre Carson, Jesus Garcia, Barbara Lee, Carolyn Maloney, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Janice Schakowsky, Rashida Tlaib as cosponsors.

The Natural Resources Committee moves forward in some way on one bill per day, taking one action on average per day.

Most bills have a hearing where those involved explain why they are for or against the bill. Roughly 8,000 bills are addressed by committees each year but only about 800 make it to the floor of Congress, according to ushistory.org.

A 2019 report from the Brookings Institute argued committees aren’t capable of delving fully into the issues they address and are forced to rely on lobbyists.
