Statement from U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo on the Election of Doreen Bogdan-Martin as ITU Secretary-General

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of Commerce on Sept. 29. It is reproduced in full below.

Congratulations to Doreen Bogdan-Martin on her historic election victory, becoming the first woman ever to lead the International Telecommunication Union. I’m especially thrilled to see an alumna of the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) bring her decades of experience and tireless commitment to digital equity to this role. Under Doreen, the ITU will help usher us towards a more connected, inclusive future, close the digital divide across the developing world, and continue to protect a free and open internet for all.
