Joshua Tree National Park management is pleased to announce a new art exhibition by 2017 Joshua Tree National Park Artist-In-Residence Koichi Yamamoto. static equilibrium is a series of intaglio prints on Japanese kozo paper formed into kites that explore the dynamism and power of the wind.
Koichi completed his BFA at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon and later studied engraving at the Bratislava Academy of Fine Arts in the Slovak Republic. Koichi also studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan, Poland and completed an MFA at the University of Alberta, Canada. In addition, he has worked as a textile designer in Fredericia, Denmark.
Koichi has exhibited extensively on an international basis. He has taught at Utah State University and the University of Delaware and is currently a professor at University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
The exhibition will run from October 7, 2022 until January 1, 2022, at the Black Rock Art Gallery in the Black Rock Nature Center, located at 9800 Black Rock Canyon Rd, Yucca Valley, CA 92284. There will be an opening reception on Friday October 7 from 5pm to 7pm. The building is open 7 days a week, 8am - 4pm.
