The Bureau of Reclamation will provide $6.6 million to 21 new projects and 120 continuing, multi-year projects that research solutions to water and power problems in the west.
Recipient projects were selected through an internal competitive process within the bureau’s Science and Technology Program, according to a Sept. 29 Bureau of Reclamation news release. Many projects will partner with internal and external organizations which will provide $13.43 million in cost-share.
“The projects selected will directly benefit water and power facility managers, customers, stakeholders and industry,” Senior Advisor for Research and Development Levi Brekke said in the release. “The Science and Technology Program contributed to many of the tools and capabilities that western water managers use today.”
Projects funded for fiscal year 2023 include Refurbishment of Small Diameter Embedded Pipes in Powerplants and Dams, Investigating Rubberized Polysiloxane Coating Formulations to Improve Durability and Long-Term Performance and Developing a Robust Planning Framework for Climate Change in California, the project’s summary said.
A competitive, merit-based applied research and development program, the Science and Technology Program focuses on solutions for water and power problems in the west, the program’s website said.
“The program focuses on innovative solutions for water and power challenges in the Western United States for Reclamation water and facility managers and the stakeholders they serve,” the website said. “The program has contributed many of the tools and capabilities Reclamation and western water managers use today.”
