Raw Sewage Spills at Paces Mill and Vickery Creek 3/6/03

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on March 6, 2003. It is reproduced in full below.

The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area has closed the Paces Mill and Vickery Creek areas of the park due to raw sewage spills. The sewer lines near the river have been overloaded due to heavy rains causing overflow of raw sewage into the Chattahoochee River and the surrounding parklands. Cobb County Water System is responsible for cleaning up Paces Mill, located off of Cobb County Parkway.

Vickery Creek is located within the City of Roswell in Fulton County. The agencies within these municipalities are responsible for cleaning up this area of the park. For visitor safety and sanitation, these two areas of the park will remain closed until further notice.
