University of Maine Forestry Camp Students at Acadia

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on May 16, 2006. It is reproduced in full below.

The University of Maine will be holding their annual Forestry Camp at Acadia National Park for the seventeenth consecutive year. From May 21 through June 3 the students will be participating in several projects: restoring historic vistas on the carriage road near Cliffside and West Branch bridges; conducting forest stand inventories and timber management on Ironbound Island; and documenting mountaintop scenic vistas with photographs. Besides these hands-on projects, students will discuss resource protection and management issues and receive wildland firefighter training. The carriage road vista work will not require any closures which would affect park visitors.
