WEST GLACIER, MONT. - Glacier National Park Superintendent Mick Holm announced today that, effective immediately and until further notice, campfires and smoking will be prohibited in the backcountry.
“In light of the recent fire in the park, and the ongoing fire season, it is in the public interest to put these restrictions in place," stated Holm.
The ban is on building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire in the backcountry of the park (all backcountry campsites), and also in the frontcountry campgrounds at Quartz Creek and Cut Bank (when it reopens). Liquid petroleum and LPG stoves are permissible.
Also, smoking is prohibited in the backcountry, including all areas beyond any park trailhead.
