The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Aug. 14, 2006. It is reproduced in full below.

At about 1:00 p.m., yesterday, Sunday, Aug. 13, Donald Earl Sullivan of Bullhead City, Arizona died of what appeared to be a heart attack; however, as is standard procedure, the Mohave County Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause of death.

Sullivan had been boating with friends when he suffered what appeared to be a massive heart attack while the group was just north of Princess Cove. Off-duty Bullhead City Police Officers were on scene and attempted life saving measures. Sullivan was then transported to Katherine Landing launch ramp where Bullhead City Fire personnel arrived at about 1:12 p.m. The Bullhead City Fire personnel continued life-saving measures on the launch ramp and while Sullivan was being transported to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center (WARMC). He was pronounced dead by medical personnel at WARMC.

Sullivan was a City Councilman and Vice-Mayor of Bullhead City, Arizona. As stated previously, the Mohave County Medical Examiner will make the final determination about the cause of death.

This is all the information I have at this time. I do not know the names of the off-duty police officers or the names of the fire personnel who responded.

This was the 21st fatality at Lake Mead National Recreation Area this calendar year.

Additional information about Mr. Sullivan is available through the city of Bullhead City PIO, Steve Johnson, 928.763.0182.
