Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is pleased to resume its Artist-In-Residence Program after a three-year break. Following a long tradition of artists drawing inspiration from National Parks, Whiskeytown will again seek applications from artists wishing to come and stay for a two-week period at the park.
Co-sponsored by the Friends of Whiskeytown and the National Park Service, the residency is open to artists working in a variety of mediums. Professional two-dimensional visual artists, photographers, sculptors, writers, composers, and crafts artists are encouraged to apply. During their stay the artist will be asked to give a public demonstration or workshop and also be asked to donate a piece of their artwork.
In 2003 Catherine Jennings, an artist and instructor at Chico State, was Whiskeytown’s first resident artist. This year’s participant is Mel Jackson, a California College of Arts and Crafts graduate and Shasta County resident. Whiskeytown is one of only thirty other National Parks offering this exciting program.
Applications for the 2007 Artist-in-Residence Program are now being accepted. To learn contact the Artist-in-Residence Coordinator at P.O.
