Maritime Classes at the Park

Come down to San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park’s Hyde Street Pier for hands-on classes in sailing, traditional boatbuilding, and maritime crafts. Experienced instructors create a fun and interesting learning environment. Limited enrollment - sign up today by calling Lucas Lineback at (415) 561-6662. On the Water

Pelican racing series: Tuesdays, April 17-May 24. 6pm-dark. Fee: $40

Try out your racing skill in a San Francisco Pelican. This informal racing series is a favorite!

Small Boat Sailing: April 22, 23, 29, 30. Adults (18 and over) and Youth (12-18). Fee: $150

Learn small boat sailing theory and practical skills.

ChinaCampState Park Trip: Aug 25, 26.

Join us on a voyage to China Camp State Park in San Rafael (birthplace of the San Francisco Bay shrimp junk Grace Quan), coinciding with the State Park’s Heritage Days Weekend. After sailing to the China Camp beach, enjoy the cultural events and celebrations and the lovely park.

In the Boat Shop

Small Craft Collection Tour: May 5, Aug. 11, November 3. Fee: Free

A curator will take you behind the scenes to discuss the design/construction of nearly 100 small boats.

Introduction to Bronze Casting: June 9, 10 (Limit to 12 people). Fee: $100

Build your own melting furnace and create a variety of boat hardware.

Oar, Paddle & Spar Making: June 30, July 1 and July 7, 8. Fee: $125

Learn to use a variety of tools to craft an elegant paddle, spar, or pair of oars.

Maritime Sketchbook on Hyde Street Pier: Saturday, Aug. 18, 9am-5pm. Fee: $95 Bring simple sketches to life with watercolor washes, and a maritime color palette. Tips and demonstrations on sketching the waterfront: depicting moving water and reflections, identifying boats and ships, and capturing the character of piers and pilings. All levels welcome. Accessible.

Diesel Engine Maintenance: Saturday, October 27 Fee: $100

Learn how to maintain and troubleshoot marine diesel engines.
