Superintendent Dan Kimball announced today that Everglades National Park has been forced to temporarily closing two popular camping sites along the Wilderness Waterway, in the gulf coast section of the park, due to vandalism. Rangers have recently found damage to the Darwin's Place and Plate Creek Bay Chickee campsites from what appears to be an arsonist who set the port-o-lets on fire resulting in a significant amount of damage.
Park Rangers are investigating the incident and the facilities management staff is working to repair the damage as quickly as possible. The public will be notified when these campsites are reopened.
