White Sands National Monument Fully Open to the Public

All roads, picnic areas and backcountry campsites that were closed due to last year’s flooding are now back open for public use. “The entire park is now open to visitors, “said Superintendent Cliff Spencer, “and we encourage the public to come out and enjoy the white sands, especially now that we are open for extended summer hours."

The Dunes Drive is open for travel every day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The park Visitor Center is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ranger-guided nature walks are given each evening at 7 p.m. and evening slide programs are held at 8:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Special events, including Full Moon Nights and Lake Lucero tours will be held throughout the summer. Information on events can be found at the park’s website www.nps.gov/whsa or by calling (575) 679-2599.
