17th Ohio Regiment and Field Hospital at Point Park

Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park Superintendent Shawn Benge announces a special Living History weekend for Point Park, located on historic Lookout Mountain.

On Saturday July 21, and Sunday, July 22, living history volunteers representing the 17th Ohio regiment will conduct Infantry demonstrations and camp talks. The Infantry demonstrations will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m., and on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. In addition, the regiment will have a regimental field hospital on display for visitors to view throughout the weekend.

In the Battle of Missionary Ridge, Nov. 25, 1863, the 17th Ohio regiment, part of Brigadier General John B. Turchin’s brigade, reached the top of Missionary Ridge in the area known as DeLong Reservation. In 1864, the 17th Ohio went on to fight in the Atlanta campaign and Sherman’s March to the Sea.
