Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park Superintendent Shawn Benge announces a special Living History weekend for Point Park, located on historic Lookout Mountain. On Saturday Aug. 11, and Sunday, Aug. 12, living history volunteers representing the 37th Georgia regiment will conduct Infantry demonstrations and camp talks. The Infantry demonstrations will be conducted Saturday at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m., and on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.
In the Battle of Missionary Ridge, Nov. 25, 1863, the 37th Georgia regiment, part of Bate’s brigade, commanded by Colonel R.C. Tyler, was one of several Confederate regiments defending the ridge against the successful assault of the Army of the Cumberland. In 1864, the 37th Georgia went on to fight in the Atlanta campaign and the Battles of Franklin and Nashville.
