The National Park Service (NPS) established a new policy in 2006 which will continue this Veteran’s Day, November 11th. U.S. veterans, members of armed forces and their families will be admitted free-of-charge on Veterans Day to public lands managed by the Department of the Interior and the Department of Agriculture.
Therefore, on November 11th the entrance fee at Wright Brothers National Memorial will be waived for all military personnel, active and retired, and their families. The entrance pass issued to veterans on November 11th will be valid for that day.
The 391 units of the National Park Service preserve and protect some of the country’s most significant scenic and cultural places. The website https://www.nps.gov/pub_aff/veterans/honor.htm
provides information on National Park Service battlefields, military parks, and historic sties that commemorate the service of American veterans.
This tradition will continue annually on November 11th each year. The date will not change with the date of the federal holiday. "I am pleased the Department has issued this policy. This is one small way we can express our appreciation to the Veterans and servicemen and women who have served and are serving this country", said Superintendent Murray.
The fee waiver applies to entrance fees only. Veteran’s Day and National Public Lands Day in September are the only annual dates when entrance fees are waived nationwide.
