In observance of the Christmas holiday season, Shiloh National Military Park will host a special natural history program on deer, Superintendent Woody Harrell announced today. Deer (particularly reindeer) are an icon of the holiday season, and this month is a perfect time to learn more about the lives of these mammals. This one hour program will discuss the seasonal life cycle and behavior of one of the most commonly observed animals on the continent: the white-tailed deer. The program, which will start at the Shiloh Visitor Center with a short introduction on deer ecology, will conclude outdoors as participants will take a caravan drive to observe deer inhabiting the battlefield.
These programs are scheduled for Saturday evening, December 22nd at 4:00 p.m., and again on Sunday morning, December 23rd at 7:30 a.m. Participants are encouraged to arrive at least 5 minutes prior to the start of each program. There will be no fee charged to attend the deer programs. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and cameras, and will need to dress according to weather conditions.
