Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park Superintendent Shawn Benge is pleased to announce a special lecture on Friday evening, Feb. 22, at 7:00 p.m. at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center Theater. Park Ranger Anton Heinlein will present this program on “Two Future Presidents & Their Roles in the Chattanooga Campaign." The Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center will be remain open that day until 8:00 p.m.
The Campaign for Chattanooga in 1863 included several distinguished Americans, including two that were later elected President of the United States. Brigadier General James Garfield served as Major General William S. Rosecrans’ Chief of Staff in the Army of the Cumberland, and Major General Ulysses S. Grant came to Chattanooga in late October to take command of the Military Division of the Mississippi. Come learn about the important roles that these two future Presidents played in this Civil War campaign.
