Petrified Forest National Park Celebrates Earth Day with Holbrook Indian School
Petrified Forest, AZ - Petrified Forest National Park would like to thank the Holbrook, Arizona Seventh Day Adventist Indian School for their Earth Day community service cleanup at the park on April 22, 2008. Fifty-two students and teachers helped clean up the Long Logs Trail area by removing several truck loads of old, wooden barricades and hundreds of large, iron staples left in the ground from a soil stabilization project. The work greatly improved the appearance of the area and increased visitor safety along the trail.
Earth Day has become an important part of National Park Week. President Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, "There is nothing so American as our National Parks." During National Park Week, we underscore our commitment to conserving these magnificent places and recognize the many employees and volunteers who give their time and energy to keep them beautiful for all Americans to enjoy.
