Natchez Trace Parkway begins Repair/Resurfacing Project

Milepost 240 to 266, Chickasaw, Pontotoc and Lee Counties, Mississippi

Natchez Trace Parkway Acting Superintendent Stennis Young announces that resurfacing work is expected to begin Monday, April 21, 2008, on a 26-mile section of the Parkway between Mississippi State Highway 32 (milepost 240) and the Visitor Center (milepost 266). Work will consist of milling the existing surface of the parkway and the overlay of the milled surface with two lifts or layers of asphaltic concrete. During the construction period motorists will be required to drive on milled surfaces and on uneven traffic lanes which will necessitate slower speeds. Single lane closures will be necessary throughout the project area and delays should be expected. Alternate routes are encouraged for the duration of the project. Motorists are urged to drive with caution, watch for construction workers and equipment, and obey all traffic signs. The entire project is expected to be completed in late summer, 2009. Bonds Company, Inc. is the contractor for the project.
