Share Your Hurricane Experiences

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on June 19, 2008. It is reproduced in full below.

Harkers Island, NC - The National Park Service and the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center would like to invite residents of the Down East and surrounding communities to come to the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center on the Tuesday night, June 24th at 7:00 PM to share your memories and stories about Carteret County hurricanes with Cape Lookout National Seashore. We will be recording your stories in order to capture personal accounts of these historic events. There will be a brief presentation to introduce you to the night’s events. Please come and join us.

If you have photos, newspaper clippings or other materials relating to hurricanes, please bring them with you. We can scan the materials and folks can take them back home after the meeting.

These stories and materials will be used by the National Park Service to add a human element to its storm recovery planning effort and by the Museum for its archive of Down East history.

For further information please contact the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and HeritageCenter at (252) 728-1500.
