Tuesdays Are Still "Fun At the Fort"

Tuesdays Are Still "Fun At the Fort"

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on July 28, 2008. It is reproduced in full below.

The first three weeks of August 1777 weren’t much fun for the American troops inside Fort Stanwix, or for the British troops trying to capture the fort. The staff and volunteers of Fort Stanwix National Monument invite you to make these same three weeks in August 2008 "fun at the fort!"

"So far, since June 'Tuesday Fun at the Fort' has had wonderful attendance numbers," states Valerie Morgan, Park Ranger. Averaging 30-40 participants per week, the drop-in program has included topics ranging from 18th Century music to flags of early America.

As with the previous Tuesday programs, there is no registration for the programs, and you may choose to attend one or more of the following topics:

August 5 - Enlistment Day

August 12 - St. Leger’s Puzzle

August 19 - Celebrate Our National Parks

Fort Stanwix National Monument is open seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission to the park is free. Activities are ongoing unless noted. For more information about upcoming events please call the park at (315)338-7730. Please visit the park’s web page at www.nps.gov/fost for additional information about the park and up-to-date news about park events.
