Updated information on Puma Prescribed Fire (Rx)
The Puma Prescribed Fire (Rx) will commence Sept. 12, 2008, and continue to be monitored through the end of the month. The main road to the south end of the park between Natural Bridge overlook and Rainbow Point will be closed through September 15. Depending on smoke and fire conditions, the road is scheduled to reopen in the late morning of September 16. Crew and visitor safety in this area is of the highest priority.
Backcountry campsites, the Under-the-Rim Trail and associated connecting trails, will continue to be closed at Natural Bridge to Rainbow Point through September 15th. These closures are necessary to ensure the safety of personnel and visitors, during the burn and after, in case of potential flare-ups or restarts. On Sept. 16, all backcountry trails and campsites are scheduled to reopen.
Closures (through September 15 only) will include the following campsites/connecting trails:
* Campsites:
1. Iron Spring
2. Corral Hollow
3. Riggs Spring Group Site
4. Riggs Spring
5. Yovimpa Pass
* Trails:
1. Under-the-Rim Trail from Natural Bridge campsite to Rainbow Point (Whiteman Connecting Trail will be the closest access to Natural Bridge campsite)
2. Agua Canyon Connecting Trail
3. Bristlecone Loop Trail
4. Riggs Spring Loop Trail
