Temporary Park Closures in Effect for Hurricane Ike on Tuesday September 9 (Homestead)

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 8, 2008. It is reproduced in full below.

verglades and Dry Tortugas National Parks are closely monitoring the progress of Hurricane Ike. In anticipation of impacts from the storm, both parks are implementing temporary closures. The closures are necessary in the interest of employee and public safety, and to allow park staff to concentrate fully on securing and protecting resources and facilities as this major storm moves through the region.

Dry Tortugas National Park is currently closed to visitation and is expected to remain closed until passage of the storm. Licensed, commercial services to the islands, including ferry boats and seaplanes, have suspended their operations until the park reopens.
