(Ninety Six, SC) -On Oct. 11, Ninety Six National Historic Site hosted its 27th annual Autumn Candlelight Tour. The event was a huge success with over seven hundred visitors braving threatening weather to attend. Visitors were guided along the park’s one-mile historic trail illuminated by 500 luminaries and torches. At seven stops costumed volunteers told stories of colonial and revolutionary Ninety Six. Musket fire exploded from the 227-year old Star Fort and the swivel gun boomed from the reconstructed Stockade Fort.
Over a hundred visitors spent the day at the park watching living historians demonstrate coopering, candle-dipping, childrens’ games, and much more. The success of this year’s program was once again due to the collective partnership efforts between the park staff and over 60 volunteers. The event is held every year on the second Saturday in October.
Ninety Six National Historic Site features two Revolutionary War battlefields, the original 1781 Star Fort, circa 1787 authentic log house, visitor center with bookstore, ten-minute interpretive film, museum, small picnic area, and much more.
