LAS VEGAS - At a banquet on Nov. 1, the National Park Service (NPS) recognized Henderson, Nev. resident Bob Kinsler with the 2008 Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award for contributing over 9000 hours since 1994. Also recognized as supervisor of the year was NPS employee Dan Rose of Kingman, Ariz., for his work supervising volunteer work crews.
“Our volunteers are passionate about Lake Mead. From staffing our visitor’s center to removing litter, they are all truly an asset to Lake Mead National Recreation Area and the park service," said William Dickinson, Superintendent of Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
Kinsler first volunteered with his wife Shirley at Lake Mead National Recreation Area in 1994. Together they conducted statistical surveys of park visitors in the Cottonwood Cove and Katherine Landing areas of the park.
Two years later they began volunteering regularly at the Alan Bible Visitor Center. After his wife’s death in 2006, Kinsler continued to volunteer with the park by working four days a week at the visitor center.
Rose, who supervises the NPS maintenance crew at Katherine Landing on Lake Mohave, also supervises 8-10 regular volunteers who assist with maintenance.
“Dan keeps our volunteers coming back," said Nancy Bernard, Volunteer Coordinator for Lake Mead.
