Parking Improvements at the Jordan Pond House

Parking Improvements at the Jordan Pond House

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Nov. 6, 2008. It is reproduced in full below.

Acadia National Park is improving the bus standing and circulation space at the Jordan Pond House. The undersized turning and standing areas which have led to congestion near the entrance will be reconstructed. Work includes separating the bus and car entrances by removing the small circular drive and replacing it with an expanded entrance drive. This will feature a pedestrian plaza and three bus drop-off areas to accommodate two Island Explorer buses, two motor coaches, and a concession tour bus. The plaza will include native plantings, a covered pergola, and benches to serve as a waiting area for bus riders.

During the period from Nov. 1, 2008, through April 30, 2009, while the Jordan Pond House is closed for the season, the parking lot and access drives adjacent to the Jordan Pond House will be closed to allow this construction. The parking lot re-opening is planned for May 1, 2009, to allow for normal seasonal operations. During the winter, the parking lot immediately to the north of the Jordan Pond House will remain open for access to Jordan Pond trails and carriage roads. The new bus stop is planned to be ready for use by June 15, 2009.
