Celebrate the New Year at Hampton on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009. Our third annual New Years Traditions program is filled with new and exciting events.

Living history re-enactors will recreate a 19th century hunting party, a popular pastime for the Ridgely family. At 2:00 p.m. Park Ranger Jim will offer a 25-minute program on sport hunting, waterfowl and Charles Ridgely’s involvement in the Carroll Island Ducking Club. Examples of the different ducks will be available to view.

Hunting isn’t complete without a dog or two, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are outstanding retrievers and are well known for their enthusiasm and endurance. After the hunting program watch a 20-30 minute retriever demonstration.

Another popular tradition at Hampton are our FREE carriage rides. Timed tickets for the 20 minute ride will be distributed in the visitor hyphen starting at noon. Rides begin at 1:00 p.m. and are offered every 20 minutes until 4:00 p.m. No reservations are accepted, please arrive early to ensure a ride.

Join park rangers and volunteers in the Orangery to play period parlour games between 1:00-2:00 p.m. and 3:00-4:00 p.m.. The parlour games are participatory- so be ready to have some fun!

This is the last weekend that the mansion will be decorated for the Yuletide season, so make sure you stop by the house during your visit.
