Kids Week 2009
February 14-21
Lowell, MA. Join Lowell Parks and Recreation, American Textile History Museum, New England Quilt Museum, Brush Art Gallery & Studios, Lowell National Historical Park, Lowell Police Department, Pollard Memorial Library, and others for a fun-filled week of activities, games, crafts, entertainment, and storytelling during February school vacation week. Here is a sample of the offerings.
Take “A Musical Journey" with Lowell National Historical Park Ranger and musician Alex Demas as he performs his blend of mill girl, animal, cowboy, and nonsense songs with banjo, guitar, fiddle, and mountain dulcimer.
Discover “Masks from Around the World" with Brush Gallery artist Lolita Demers. Learn how masks are used and have developed in different areas of the world such as Egypt, Africa, China, Cambodia, and in the United States.
“Bark, Meow, Tweet": a Family Story Time. Come to the Pollard Memorial Library and join in a family story time all about pets! Listen to stories, sing songs, and play some games that celebrate our animal friends. Bring your favorite stuffedcritter for our Parade of Pets
Create your own Recycled Sculpture! Make your own tabletop sculptures using found objects and recycled materials. Not sure what to do with those left over paper towel rolls and old magazines? Bring your own reusable objects and create a recycled masterpiece. Additional materials will be provided.
Gypsy Moonwith Charlotte Ciaraldi, independent artist: Create a three dimensional moon with stars to take home. Using fabric, paper, wire and color you will design a fun mobile. The focus is on having fun!
Activities throughout the week include sing-a-longs, writing classes, discovery workshops, swimming, safety classes, story times, play days at Jump On In!, and bingo & pizza.
