BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. - The National Park Service has suspended dive operations in the search for the body of John Silva the 42-year-old El Monte resident that went missing on Monday. Rangers plan on continuing the search on Thursday using side scan sonar.
"Its important that we find him and bring closure for the family. We suspended the dive operation because the depth of water was outside the safe operating limits for the divers," said Andrew Muñoz, spokesman for Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
Divers from Bullhead City Fire Department searched the area yesterday for about four hours with no results. They also searched on Monday afternoon, the operation was halted after two hours when one of the divers was injured.
Silva went missing Monday afternoon after he jumped into the lake without a life jacket to cool off. Witnesses state that he began to struggle to stay afloat within a minute of going into the water.
