The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Oct. 5, 2009. It is reproduced in full below.

Park staff and volunteers have assessed the flood damages and have begun repairs and cleanup to areas in and along the Chattahoochee River. The bacteria count has reduced to a safe level and the previously closed Chattahoochee River from Holcomb Bridge south to Peachtree Creek has been reopened for recreational use. The fitness trail at Cochran Shoals has been reopened; this includes Interstate North and Columns Drive. Several areas remain closed due to extensive flood damage and these include Paces Mill, Johnson Ferry, Whitewater, and the parking lot at Vickery Creek. Boat ramps that remain closed are Paces Mill, Whitewater, and Johnson Ferry.
