The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Dec. 17, 2009. It is reproduced in full below.

The Florissant Fossil Beds is hosting its popular winter programs called Huts, Hikes, and Hot Chocolate. On December 26th and 27th and January 3rd at 11:30 visitors will meet by the woodstove in the yurt for a hot beverage and then go on a 1 hour ranger-led hike to experience the Monument in winter. Call ahead for weather conditions. In the afternoon of the 26th and 27th, the fossil discovery lab will be open from 1 - 3 PM. The Monument will be closed on Christmas and New Year’s Days. If you haven’t visited the Monument in a while, you will find new exhibits, a theater showing a 14 minute orientation film, and a new junior ranger program for kids. The Monument’s 14 miles of hiking trails offer an excellent opportunity to enjoy nature and solitude within a shortdrive of the Colorado Springs area. If the snow is deep enough, there is excellent cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. The Monument also has a wide variety of books, posters, and puppets inthe bookstore. The fee is $3.00 per adult and free for anyone under the age of 16. Petsare not permitted. Visit our webcam for weather at www.nps.gov/flfo and click on the link for"webcam."
