Roads Reopen in Yosemite National Park

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Jan. 23, 2010. It is reproduced in full below.

Almost all roads leading into Yosemite National Park have reopened after being closed due to snow, ice, and fallen trees. Highways 120 (Big Oak Flat Road) and 140 (El Portal Road) were reopened at 8:00 a.m. this morning. Highway 41 (Wawona Road) is also open from Yosemite Valley to Chinquapin but remains closed south of Yosemite West to Wawona due to fallen trees.

The Badger Pass Road will reopen at 9:00 a.m. today. The Hetch Hetchy Road will remain closed through the weekend due to fallen trees and ice on the roadway.

For 24-hour road information and chain restrictions, please call 209-372-0200 for updated information.

Visitors coming into the park over the weekend are urged to drive slowly and with caution. All vehicles entering the park must carry chains as the weather can change quickly (even vehicles equipped with four-wheel-drive). Additionally, visitors are also urged to be aware of significant risk of falling trees while driving or walking in the park.
