Petrified Forest, AZ―National parks and other federal land agencies are offering a series of fee- free days this summer and fall-an encouragement to all to celebrate and enjoy your public lands this year!
Mark your calendars for fee-free weekends at the national parks and other federal land agencies this year:
June 5-6 (National Trails Day)
August 14-15
September 25 (National Public Lands Day)
November 11 (Veterans Day)
Summer programs:
10:00 am and 2:00 pm Painted Desert Inn Tour: Explore this intriguing National Historic Landmark with a ranger and discover its fascinating past.
11:00 am, 3:00 pm, and 5:00 pm Triassic Program: How did these once living trees turn to stone? Meet in the Rainbow Forest Museum sunroom. Find out on this ranger talk or easy guided walk along the Giant Logs Trail. There are some stairs along the trail.
11:00 am, 3:00 pm, and 5:00 pm Puerco Pueblo Program: Find out about the ancestral Puebloan people who once lived in this 100-room pueblo. Meet at the Puerco Pueblo Trail at the south end of the parking lot for an easy ranger-guided 1/3 mile walk.
Each Saturday there will also be a special demonstrator at the Painted Desert Inn National Historic Landmark (open 9 am to 5 pm), including American Indian artists and historical presentations.
*The fee waiver includes: entrance fees, commercial tour fees, and transportation entrance fees. Other fees such as reservation, camping, tours, concession and fees collected by third parties are not included unless stated otherwise.
