WILDERNESS MANAGEMENT PLAN PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD EXTENDED

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on May 6, 2010. It is reproduced in full below.

LAS VEGAS - The National Park Service will accept public comment on its

draft wilderness management plan for Lake Mead National Recreation Area

through July 2. The deadline has been extended from May 14 to July 2 to

allow additional time for interested individuals and groups to respond to

the proposed management strategies.

This draft plan proposes several changes in how eight of the nine

wilderness areas in the park are managed. Three alternatives have been

developed that vary primarily in the level of public access and degree of

management. The proposed changes address access and visitor distribution,

visitor information services, and resource conditions.

The draft plan is available online at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/lake.

Comments may be made online or mailed to Lake Mead National Recreation

Area, 601 Nevada Way, Boulder City, NV 89005
