LAS VEGAS - The National Park Service will accept public comment on its
draft wilderness management plan for Lake Mead National Recreation Area
through July 2. The deadline has been extended from May 14 to July 2 to
allow additional time for interested individuals and groups to respond to
the proposed management strategies.
This draft plan proposes several changes in how eight of the nine
wilderness areas in the park are managed. Three alternatives have been
developed that vary primarily in the level of public access and degree of
management. The proposed changes address access and visitor distribution,
visitor information services, and resource conditions.
The draft plan is available online at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/lake.
