Oyster Bay, NY: Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, home of President Theodore Roosevelt, is the perfect destination for families who are looking to enjoy the outdoors and observe Memorial Day Weekend. The following activities and events are free and no reservations are required:
Ranger-guided Nature Walk: Join a Park Ranger Saturday May 29th at 2PM for a Nature Walk down to the Cold Spring Harbor Beach. Discover the fascinating world of nature and learn about the wildlife that call Sagamore Hill their home. Meet at the visitor center at 2PM. Please dress appropriately and wear sturdy foot wear. The walk is approximately 1 mile long and will last for about an hour.
Traditional Irish Music: On Sunday May 30th at 1PM Jessica Semins and her ensemble will perform a concert of traditional Irish and American Music. In addition to Ms. Semins, who plays fiddle, she will be joined by two other musicians, Pio Ryan, banjo, and Johnnie Cuomo, guitar. The music is lively and entertaining for the whole family.
North Point Brass Quintet: On Monday May 31st at 1PM join us for a program of traditional American band music on the porch of Sagamore Hill. Works will include the Battle Hymn Republic, Amazing Grace, Paragon Rag; other traditional music will be performed as well. This is a perfect way to observe Memorial Day and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. Seating is not provided for programs held on the porch, visitors are encouraged to bring a blanket or chairs to use on the west lawn.
Summer Schedule: On Memorial Day Weekend, Sagamore Hill moves to its summer schedule: Open seven days per week. Tours of the home are limited to fourteen persons and are offered on the hour from 10AM to 4PM daily. Tour tickets are five dollars per person (children 15 years old and younger are free) and are sold on a first-come-first-served basis from our visitor center. On busy days, especially weekends, tours often sell out by early afternoon. Plan to arrive early in the day to purchase tickets and take advantage of other site attractions including the Theodore Roosevelt Museum at Old Orchard and our nature trail. The grounds of Sagamore Hill are open year round from dawn to dusk.
