Fire Island National Seashore Operations Disrupted as Hurricane Earl Passes

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on Sept. 3, 2010. It is reproduced in full below.

Park facilities were closed on Friday, Sept. 3, in anticipation of the effects of Hurricane Earl as it passed to the east. Camping was restricted and beaches were closed to swimming as of Thursday, September 2. Ferry service to Sailors Haven and Watch Hill was suspended for Friday.

Park operations are expected to resume after assessment of damages on Saturday. Hazardous surf conditions may, however, keep beaches closed to swimming.
