FLIGHT 93 NATIONAL MEMORIAL TO BEGIN WINTER HOURS STARTING OCTOBER 13
The Flight 93 National Memorial will begin a shortened winter schedule starting on Wednesday, October 13. Winter hours will be from 9AM to 5 PM. The memorial will continue to be open seven days a week and National Park Service (NPS) rangers and volunteer Flight 93 Ambassadors will continue to be on hand to provide information on the memorial and the story of 9/11 and Flight 93. The Flight 93 National Memorial is located near Shankville, PA.
“Construction of the Flight 93 National Memorial continues to move forward and we remain on track to dedicate the first phase of the memorial by Sept. 11, 2011," said Keith Newlin, Deputy Superintendent, Western PA National Parks. “The temporary memorial at the Western Overlook will remain open throughout the winter and we encourage everyone to continue to visit us here and also to go to our web site at www.nps.gov/flni. There you can find all the latest information about the memorial including the latest updates on construction, visiting hours and directions. It is also where visitors can link to our live onsite webcam provided by the National Park Foundation to view the construction progress at the Memorial Plaza."
About the Flight 93 National Memorial
On Sept. 24, 2002, Congress passed the Flight 93 National Memorial Act. The Act created a new national park unit to commemorate the passengers and crew of Flight 93 who, on Sept. 11, 2001, courageously gave their lives thereby thwarting a planned attack on our nation’s capital. The memorial is near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where Flight 93 crashed with the loss of its 40 passengers and crew.
