The National Park Service has approved an increase in camping fees at Chickasaw National Recreation Area. The new rates will go into effect March 1, 2011. Before implementing this change to camping fees, the park solicited input from the public. The park also conducted a local comparability study and found that park campground rates were lower than most other campgrounds in the region. The camping fees will increase $2.00 for individual sites and $6.00 for group sites.
One hundred percent of the camping fees collected are returned to Chickasaw National Recreation Area, where they provide direct benefits to park visitors. The fee increase will cover increased utility costs for electricity, and provide additional revenue which will be applied to our highest priority visitor needs. These funds have been, and will continue to be, used for maintenance, repair projects, public service programs, signage, and natural and historical resource preservation. "We do not take this fee increase lightly during a time of national economic uncertainty, but we believe that this step will allow the park to improve the quality of the experience we provide for our visitors," said Superintendent Bruce Noble.
