The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on April 7, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

Rome, NY: The staff and volunteers at Fort Stanwix National Monument invite families with children ages 5 to 12 to join in the 2011 "Backyard Club" program on Wednesday, April 20 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Fort Stanwix National Monument's Willett Center. We will be discovering together how the Earth's climate is changing. Participants will be encouraged to make a mark on the world - starting in their own back yard!

Have you ever wondered about how you can help make the Earth a better place? We have too, and we need your help!

"What's All the Talk About?" There are a lot of people talking about climate change, but can we actually see it here at Fort Stanwix? Become a scientist and decide for yourself if our Earth's climate is changing. Participate in a national bird count and measure the distance birds have moved their homes. You may be surprised. Piece together the h abitat h istory of Fort Stanwix through interactive picture puzzles. Go undercover disguising yourself as an Alien Invader to h unt down the culp rits that may be destroying our forests.

Then let's get moving and get outside at Fort Stanwix. See what's in your backyard today. Become a Backyard Club Buddy, today.
