Superintendent Mike Murray announced the reopening of NC 12 on Bodie Island beginning today, April 15, 2011, at 5:00 p.m. Two-way traffic will resume on the section of NC 12 from Whalebone Junction Visitor Center south to the intersection of SR 1243 (Old Oregon Inlet Road).

The road construction project is 85% complete with a final top layer of pavement still to be accomplished between now and Memorial Day. Beginning on Monday, April 18, weekdays only, Monday through Thursday, short one-lane sections will be closed for construction. There will be intermittent traffic delays in these sections during this phase of the final paving process. Please use caution. Obey speed limits and flag person directed traffic flow patterns during these times. No road construction will take place on the weekends, Friday through Sunday.
