The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on April 29, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

The Big Thicket National Preserve Superintendent announced today that portions of the Turkey Creek trail are now open. In the southern part of the unit, the Kirby Nature Trail and the Sandhill Loop are open, but the trail north of the loop remains closed. The northern portion of the Turkey Creek Trail to the Hester Bridge (CR 4825) crossing is also open. This includes the popular Pitcher Plant Trail. The middle section of the trail from the Sandhill Loop north to the Hester Bridge remains closed indefinitely due to fire damage. Call the Visitor Center for more information, 409-951-6700.
