Fort Pulaski Summer Kickoff

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on May 26, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

The Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of Fort Pulaski's annual extension of hours for the summer season. "This is a great time for the public to come out to Fort Pulaski to appreciate one of Savannah's great treasures and soak up the history," said Randy Wester, Fort Pulaski's Superintendent.

The fort's cannon crew will perform cannon firings on Saturday, while dressed as Civil War soldiers. These demonstrations feature a historically correct firing drill that is virtually copied from the Civil War artillery manuals.
